| California
Connection is a family run business, which has been established for over 10 years.
Father with his head full of knowledge after 40 years in the motor and motorcycle
trade and specializing in what are now classics but were then cars and bikes of
the time was retired and spending the winters in Southern California. The
eldest son had been forced out of a Grand Prix motorcycling career after an accident
and the eldest daughter married a Californian. This seemed an ideal opportunity
to search out and ship the "rust free" cars to be found in sunny Southern
California. Dad's expertise,
coupled with the enthusiasm of the rest of the family, have enabled the business
to grow, until now there are 60 - 80 English and European classics available in
Derbyshire and 150 more in the yard in Ramona, San Diego County, awaiting shipment.
These cover a wide range, including American classics, muscle cars and trucks
from the 1920's through to the 1990's. Almost all of these are offered in "as
found" condition, catering for the enthusiast who wants to be able to see
exactly what he is buying and do the necessary restoration himself. However, if
a customer wishes, we can organize mechanical work and body restoration as required.
|
| We
also have a parts division, lots of "hard to find" parts for English,
American and European classic cars and trucks. If we don't have the parts you
require on stock, a phone call or fax to the San Diego office gets the piece sourced
and shipped back to the UK. Many trade restorers take advantage of this and
the availability of truly rust free body-shells, which enables a restoration project
to be completed with a genuine rust free shell, instead of a reproduction body.
The average price of a 1970 MGB chrome bumper rust free shell is £1,500. An
ever- growing side of the business is sourcing and buying specific vehicles for
customers. Unlike most people doing this who rely through necessity on agents
and trade suppliers in the U.S.A. we have a permanent presence there. As a result,
one of the recent finds was a 1930's Model A Ford and a 1960's Austin Healey 3000
BJ8. A, TR3A in need of full restoration, complete with a possum sitting under
the bonnet! As well
as the regular finds such as MG, Jaguar, Fiat or Alfas, the car of your dreams
can be found, inspected and assessed by an expert. The details are then relayed
to the prospective buyer who then knows exactly what he is getting for his money,
without the expense of flying 12,000 miles and attempting to find what he wants
in a few short weeks of holiday. Our
45 ft. containers are loaded in San Diego, once they have cleared Customs in the
UK they are transported to Derbyshire where you can collect your car, or we can
deliver to your door on our Ford F350 Tow Truck.
| If
you are travelling from far a field why not take advantage of a stay in one of
our holiday cottages over night whilst you check over our stock. You could
even bring the family take a break and enjoy some of the beautiful sites Derbyshire
has to offer. Stately Homes, Dovedale, Goyt Valley, Alton Towers, close by for
theme park lovers, or leisurely walks/bike rides.etc.

Ramona our USA Base Ramona
is a laid-back cowboy town, approx. 39 miles north east of San Diego A large
percentage of the population still, wear cowboy boots and Stetsons, (obviously
not as big as the Texan Stetsons) and have the horses to go with the gear. It
is great entertainment to watch the local rodeo, and soak up the slow pace of
the town. However I must add, change is on the way, Ramona has started growing
and with it the newer more modern buildings, and the inevitable "fast food"
chains. |
